MFA in Studio Art
The MFA in Studio Arts is a rigorous program intended for artists committed to pursuing a professional life in the arts and prepares students for careers as practicing artists and arts professionals as well as teachers in colleges, universities, and art schools. MFA students in the Department of Art and Art History are given private studio spaces and access to many of the department’s facilities in the new Visual Arts Complex and are eligible for a variety of awards, assistantships, and teaching opportunities. During the two and half-year program, students focus on one of several areas including:
IMAPÂ (digital, integrated arts, photography, video)
Sculpture and Post-Studio Practice
Additionally, in collaboration with Film Studies Program, the Department of Art and Art History offers a film track MFA. Although students are accepted into the MFA program and assigned advisors under specific areas, the nature of the program encourages students to follow a more interdisciplinary path. In addition to seminars taught by faculty throughout the department, MFA students also have the opportunity to work with a diverse selection of distinguished visiting artists during their time in the program. Moreover, since the department is part of a larger research university, students are encouraged to take courses and explore fields outside of the department as a complement to their studies.
