Screening of Usama Alshaibi's film American Arab
|Tuesday, April 15 at 7:30 pm|
|Visual Arts Complex 1B20, CU-Boulder|
Iraqi-American filmmaker Usama Alshaibi shares his own story of experiencing racism in post-9/11 America. Showcasing the diversity of Arabs living in the United States, American Arab sparks a frank conversation about identity and perception, and argues for giving people “the space to be complicated.”
Usama Alshaibi was born in Baghdad, Iraq and spent his formative years living between the United States and the Middle East. His films have received grants from the Creative Capital Foundation, the Playboy Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation, among others. He works in both narrative and documentary feature films. His latest documentary, American Arab, had a world premiere at the International Documentary FIlm Festival Amsterdam.
Usama is a second year graduate student in film at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
