George Rivera

Professor, IMAP, Integrated Arts

Dr. George Rivera received his Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York.  He is a Fulbright Scholar and was awarded the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts from the State of Colorado.  Dr. Rivera is an artist, art critic, and a curator.  In addition to exhibitions in the United States, he has had exhibitions in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Mexico, Palestine, Peru, Russia, and Spain.

    “The Horror” 2011

    “The Horror,” a digital art piece, was created for an exhibition at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia. It references the BORDER WALL in Nogales, Arizona where several Mexican immigrants died of hypothermia. This piece also was exhibited as part of a sound art piece presented in Palestine, Mexico and Spain.

    “Altar for George and Lupe Rivera” 2010

    “Day of the Dead Altar,” an installation piece, that was created (with Ruth Rivera as a collaborator) as a tribute to our parents. It was exhibited on Days of the Dead in the U.S. and Mexico.
